HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE AND COCONUT GRANOLA

Do you find yourself looking for healthy foods in the market but not wanting to spend a whole of money on it? We know we do.  Eating healthy can especially be challenging for all the busy bees out there.

Granola is basically rolled oats baked with nuts and dried fruits. Store bought granola can sometimes be quite expensive and loaded with sugar. This granola recipe is a saviour! You can make a batch of this and you’re sorted for breakfast for 2 weeks.

We’ve been making our own healthy granola for years now. It tastes SOO much better than store bought and could not be any easier to make. The best part is that you can truly make it your own by adding your favourite ingredients and removing things that you’re not a big fan of.

These are a lot of ingredients but you just have to buy them once and you can use these superfoods in a bunch of different ways.

Unlike store bought granolas, they are sugar free, preservatives free, free of any unknown ingredients, clean and inexpensive

This is my basic go-to granola recipe, but I often add other ingredients to it to create different variations. The oats, coconut oil and honey/maple syrup are the foundation of this recipe, but the rest of the ingredients can be easily substituted.

There are several ways to eat granola. With milk of your choice, yogurt, topped with fresh fruits or by itself.

Homemade Chocolate Granola

Ingredients:
1/3 cup honey/maple syrup
1/3 cup almond butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp cacao powder
1/2 tsp sea salt
2 cups rolled oats
3/4 cup almonds
1/2 cup seeds (we used watermelon, pumpkin and sunflower seeds)
1/2 cup coconut flakes or shredded coconut
1/2 cup cacao nibs

Method:

Mix honey/maple syrup, almond butter, vanilla extract, cacao powder and salt together.
Add the remaining ingredients to the batter and mix well.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper and spread the mixture on it.
At 170 deg C bake for 20 mins, flip the mixture to evenly cook it and bake for another 10 mins.
Let it cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

Shelf life: 10 days

Storage: Store in an air tight container in a dry place
